Planet Planners on Roblox
Planet Planners on Roblox is a new geography game from BBC Bitesize delivering learning mapped to the KS3 geography curriculum in an immersive and engaging way.
Playerthree won a wide international pitch against studios from the USA, Europe and UK to secure the project.
Planet Planners on Roblox offers a new way for students aged 11-14 to learn about some of the world’s most pressing challenges – from preparing for natural disasters to managing large cities.
The game is available to play on Roblox, the platform of choice for so many students these days and one on which increasingly major brands and TV channels are publishing content.
Planet Planners on Roblox is decision-making game with geographical thinking at its core. Players will develop essential skills like teamwork, time management, resilience, critical thinking and strategic planning as well as understanding of human and physical geography.
Many Roblox games have a very simple visual aesthetic but Planet Planners on Roblox required realistic 3D game environments. These were created using Roblox Studio terrain and 3D construction tools with some bespoke mesh models.
The game is aligned to the Geography curriculum in the UK and USA therefore geographic realism for the global locations was very important.
Playerthree worked closely with the Bitesize education team at the BBC and Roblox themselves to deliver this unique piece of educational learning. As with all BBC Bitesize projects, special attention was paid toward a full diversity of people around the world in regional or occupational clothing.

Population and migration: Madagascar, Souther Europe
Tectonics hazards: Iceland and Indonesia
Coasts: UK and Central America
Urbanisation: Central Africa and Northern Europe
Food and water: East Africa and Western USA
Weather & climate: Souther USA and Bay of Bengal
The scope of the game and breadth of the learning on offer for children in and outside of schools is huge. Players can play solo, or in teams with the gameplay challenge scaling accordingly.
